Let your roots grow deep

Our society embraces all things shallow. From the shows we watch that glorify the superficial, to the music we listen to that celebrates all things materialistic and vain. Not to mention our social networks bombarded with edited photos of ourselves and updates about our picture-perfect lives. Superficiality is coming in at us at every angle. We are surrounded and if we do not become aware of it's hurtful measures we can be rendered useless to it's power and find ourselves consumed.

We are consumed by shallow conversation, gossip and pointless words.
We are consumed by materialism and end up constantly in want.
We are consumed by envy.
We are consumed by the "Ideal" lifestyle.
We are consumed by what we think we deserve, the hand that we should have been dealt.
We are consumed by the concern of self-image, breeding insecurity that abolishes our contentment and peace with ourselves.
Ultimately, I am consumed with ME and you are consumed with YOU.

There is nothing worse than being consumed by a source that leaves you feeling empty and dissatisfied. Although for a time the superficial may seem gratifying; it will never fulfill you. It will never be enough.

So how do we break free from this addiction? We must be reminded of all that the Lord provides for us! What happened to the joy of serving? Have we forgotten about the edification of encouragement and the fulfillment of giving? Are we so lost in ourselves that we cannot see the FULL LIFE that is presented to us when we let our roots grow deep and live out the promises of the Lord?

My desire is to experience what is real and is promised from the Lord; the truth. I know full well that no good thing will come from superficial conduct and surface level relationships. This has run it's course in my life and it is time to let go. It is time to embrace confidence in my faith, to reject apathy and to desire growth.

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
Colossians 2:6&7

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
Matthew 18-21

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD,
   whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
   its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

David says in Psalms (119:20) that his soul is CONSUMED with the longing for the Lord's law at all times! I can not remember a time in my life when I was truly consumed with the Lord's law and promises which are the purest form of TRUTH that we have access to. I so desire to make a drastic shift from the superficial human establishments of this world to the life transforming heavenly realms. To have a heart that longs to be held accountable by the law of my Lord and a life that is rooted deeply in his love!

the essentials

Lanterns and Birdcages are my two current decorative obsessions. These vintage accessories bring so much life into a room! Ordinary wall decorations like frames and shelves can get so mundane but the addition of an old and beautiful antique accessory provides character. I personally love them and want them everywhere in my future home.

Awesome antique French street lamp.
